Sewing New Bikinis from my Beautiful SPF50+ Swim Fabric ☀️๐Ÿ‘™

I finally had some energy to sit down at my sewing machine and make myself a couple of new bikinis from one of my absolute favourite fabrics in the shop - my gorgeous SPF50+ swim fabric! And honestly… I’m completely in love with how they turned out ๐Ÿ˜ I'm getting addicted to sewing swimwear!

This is the Lily Days print I made especially for bikini sewing purposes, so the print repeat is very small: Lily Days Fabric.

There's just something so satisfying about sewing your own swimwear. Not only do you get to choose exactly the style and fit you want, but you can also create something truly unique using prints and colors you won't find anywhere else.

Why I Love This Swim Fabric

This beautiful swim and sports fabric combines both functionality and comfort while still being incredibly pretty.

✨ UPF 50+ sun protection
✨ Amazing 4-way stretch
✨ Chlorine resistant
✨ Resistant to seawater and pool water
✨ Helps maintain color intensity even after many washes and sunny beach days
✨ Soft, comfortable and shape-retaining

This is the Flamazing Summer print and I'm crushing hard on it, sooo cute! Speaking of getting to chose your own design when sewing swimwear, why is it impossible to find low cut bikini bottoms nowadays? These I copied of an old pair from a 2010ish something bikini.

The UPF 50+ swim fabric is made from:

  • 87% Polyester
  • 13% Elastane

It has a weight of 220gsm and a width of 145cm, making it perfect for swimwear and activewear projects alike.

One thing I especially love is the UVAPOL RAY coating used in the fabric. Not only does it provide excellent UV protection, but it also helps the fabric keep its beautiful vibrant colors over time - even with lots of sun, swimming and washing.

This one I made from my Flower Fantasy fabric, and I just adore the little birds on this print! So cute!

This was the easiest make ever, it's just a 16" x 11" rectangle folded in half, pushed in round bikini cups into the tube it created, folded in the two short edges to make a tunnel for a neck strap and added a tie in the middle - et voila! A bikini top! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‘™

Perfect For So Much More Than Bikinis

While I obviously had bikinis on my mind this time ๐Ÿ˜„ this fabric is incredibly versatile and works beautifully for:

  • One-piece swimsuits
  • Two-piece swimsuits
  • Rash guards
  • Swim shorts
  • Jumpsuits
  • Workout leggings
  • Dancewear
  • Tennis skirts
  • Sports bras and workout tops

Honestly, I already have ideas for matching workout wear too… I might have a problem.
