I'm super happy to share my very first, real PDF pattern! It's 18 pages with over 40 color photos so it should be easy to follow for everyone, even if you're not used to reading patterns. =)
Please note the The Bia Bag pattern, while still a working pattern, is not up to the standard of my new, Pink Pony Design Patterns.
Edit: This pattern is available for free download in the "files" section of my Facebook group.
I really love this bag so much! It's such a perfect size, it has a ton of pockets, inside and out as I love knowing exactly where I have my stuff. This is the new version I made while creating the pattern, it's a girly spring version in fresh linen and light blues! I think I somehow knew when I started making this pattern this fall that it'd probably be spring before I finished *lol*
The many pockets are a lifesaver for me, I don't want my handbag to be a black hole where all my stuff rides jumbled about in a crazy mix and nothing can be found. One pocket for each thing, phone, compact, pens, nail file, key loop etc. I've really optimized this bag for me and hopefully, you'll find that it fits you just as good as it fits me!
It's not big which is one of my key requirements for a bag (you know what it's like - if there's room I will fill it and kill my back lugging it all around), but I can fit all the stuff I need in it - including a pocket book - so it's perfect for me, I use mine everyday. Which is why I felt I really had to share this pattern with you all! =)
If you choose to download the pattern I'd love if you let me know what you think of it by leaving a comment here or on Craftsy. If you make a Bia Bag, I'd love if you hashtag it with #pinkponydesign and #thebiabag when sharing it on social media so I and others can find and enjoy it =)
Any and all feedback is much appreciated! <3
Tackar...
ReplyDeleteI love the size of this bag and all the pockets. I really like the colors you picked too. I will print it out as soon as I get my printer ink, I just ran out yesterday.
ReplyDeleteEtt fantastiskt bra och tydligt mönster! Och framför allt en fantastiskt härlig väska med perfekt storlek och massor med bra fickor. Du har gjort ett jättejobb med mönstret, älskling!

ReplyDeleteI like this bag! I prefer something bigger but it could be interesting to have one in smaller size. Malta gave us a lot of unexpected experiences (in October our son was born but it turned out that he has congenital heart disease and now I don't have time to sew). But after unpleasant winter I hope to find time to start hexagons. regards :)
ReplyDeleteI really like this bag because of all the handbag hardward that has been used. I've not made a bag with a zip before and as this has 3 I think I will be much more confident about zips once I have made it
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope you will be more confident, zippers are such a useful thing once one becomes accustomed to using them. And the ones in this bag are really easy to do =)
Deletethanks so much for sharing this! the bag is lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteClelia
Thank you! =)
DeleteVery nice of you to give us this pattern. Love your bag and already went to Craftsy and got it.
ReplyDeleteThank you
Jean Manna
Aww, I'm so glad you like it, thank you! <3
DeleteIf anything is unclear or any of you find any issues with it, please don't hesitate to let me know =)
Super cute.Love your fabrics combo. Thanks for the tutorial!!
ReplyDeleteLove this!
ReplyDeleteDo you know if an iPad fits in here?
Thank you! =)
DeleteI'm afraid I don't own an iPad so I don't know, but based on the measurements I found online it should fit very precisely =)
I can just fit my Nexus 10 tablet in there, but if you're uncertain, why not add an extra inch on the height of the bag (add 1" to all the exterior pieces on the long side and to the lining pieces, you won't have to adjust anything else really as all pockets and things are width based) and you should be very safe size wise?
I do not see what size the seams are. Have I missed it? I have mine cut out and started to sew it together, but did not know what size to make the seams. I love the pattern and am anxious to make it. I have already made two small lines zipper bags out of the outer fabric to match. Help!
ReplyDeleteThanks for edit 2. I am going to work on it later today.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry I didn't realize sooner! I felt every last strand of my blonde hair when it was brought to my attention! XD
DeleteI'm so used to everything having a 1/4" seam allowance it didn't even cross my mind! ^^
No problem. I even read through the pattern before cutting it out. It was so detailed and clear that I didn't even notice until I started to sew. Thanks for the additional info.
DeleteI'm stuck... I downloaded the pdf and it has all the instructions, but not the pattern itself. Help?
ReplyDeleteOh, and if it helps, the pdf has 17 pages and the 17th page has the start of the pattern, I think, but only the Top Flap piece is on it. =(
DeleteSo sorry if it's unclear!
DeleteThe rest of the pieces are just rectangles to be cut according to the cutting instructions on page 2, just cut those pieces for the pieces of the rest of the bag =)
Oh my goodness, I feel so silly for not noticing. Thank you so much, I can't wait to get started now!
Delete(And it wasn't unclear once I actually read through the pattern, I had only scrolled through it looking for the pattern pieces to print out)
Please don't feel silly, I'd probably have done the same thing! Most bag patterns do come with actual pattern pieces =)
DeleteWould love to see the finished bag when you're done ^^

I so love this bag pattern! Thank you for sharing it so freely! I am curious....I don't seem to have a source here in the Midwest USA for bag handles. Any ideas? Thanks, M
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear you like it! =D
DeleteI'd recommend Etsy.com, there are many lovely bag making accessory sellers there =)
Hello Maria
ReplyDeleteThank you for this wonderful tuto.
I plan to do it for one of my friend and are wondering what king of interfacing you use (do you have a web link?)
Thank you
Sandrine
Thank you for your kind words! I hope you'll have much fun making it for your friend =)
DeleteI use "fast 2 fuse" interfacing: http://www.equilter.com/product/53478/fast-2-fuse-interfacing-22-wide
But I don't do as recommended and cut the pieces of fast 2 fuse smaller then the pattern, I like the added stability the bag gets from have the interfacing in the seams. =)
Hi Maria,
ReplyDeleteI am from Spain, I thank you for this wonderful tutorial with photos that have developed.
I have had trouble converting measures and it has been a little different.
I am very happy with the result. I can not put photo on Flickr, but I leave the link in my blog to see my bag:

DeleteHi Maria,
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to sell the sewn bag using your pattern? Thanks.
Cindy
You're most welcome to do so! It'd mean a lot to me it you call them Bia Bags even when you sell them so should someone want to find the pattern, they can do so =)

DeleteThank you Maria. I will definitely mention that its you who created the pattern, again thank you.

I thing this nice bag making me look important for this i always love this bag want this bag at any cost.Handbags and Purses thanks.
ReplyDeleteAs genealogy is one of my hobbies, I'm interested in where you obtained the fabric for the bag as it appears to be a "census" design.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I really like your design, I,m sure I sew it soon.
ReplyDeleteHughs!
Thank you for the pattern! It is on my to do list for this week. This is just what I've been looking for.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that Wanda! I really hope you have fun making your Bia Bag!
DeleteI really like this pattern but the name interests me. I named my now 5 year old daughter Bia. It was a nickname for my grandmother I came up with when I was 2 and have never heard other then my family. How did you come across it?
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you like it =)
DeleteBia is actually my nickname too =D
It's since my youngest sister was small, we're a lot for nicknames in my family and I used to be called, "Misan" and "Misen", which developed into "Bisen" (maybe with some variations in between) which then was shortened to just "Bia" by my 10 years younger sister who wasn't talking all that well back then and that one stuck =)
Now I'm Bia with most of my closest friends and family =)
I cannot download this from Craftsy nor your site. Please email me the PDF if you can. Sandicu@aol.com.
ReplyDeleteThank you and it is really cute and organized!
OH Wait, I think it went through at Craftsy...I got it!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you managed to solve it! =D
DeleteHi. I signed up at crafty but their download link also doesn't seem to be working. Can you please email the PDF to me? It looks like such a great pattern, just what I have been looking for!
ReplyDeletePlease send me an email at maria@pinkponydesign.com and I'll be happy to, as you're a "no-reply comment blogger" I can't email you back in reply to your comment. <3
DeleteGood post. Glad to find your blog. Thanks for sharing.

Hey, I really like your Bias Bag pattern and downloaded it from Craftsy but it only includes the tutorial and not the pattern itself except for the top flap. Is it okay if you email it to me?
ReplyDeleteI was wondering where you found your purse handles for the bag on the cover of the pattern? I am excited to try making one!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear you'd like to make one! =D
DeleteThey where bought in a Swedish quilt store and I'm afraid I haven't been able to find them online.
Tack Bia, den måste jag prova! Kram Maggan
ReplyDeleteVa kul att du gillar den, den är en väldigt trevlig liten väska, det är den första riktiga egna väskan jag sydde, gjorde den på första sommar sy-lanet hos Anki vill jag minnas =)
DeleteToppen! Precis ettsådant mönster jag letat efter. Nu är bara nästa problem, engelskan... Det finns möjligtvis inte på svenska?
