Circles of Time Table Runner - A New Pattern!

I'm very excited to introduce my second Pink Pony Design pattern, the Circles of Time Tablerunner!

I had so much fun making this table runner, I actually literally dreamed of it, when I woke up I was so excited and I had to sketch it right away. I'll make a post about one of my weird ways of getting new designs another day =)

Isn't it just gorgeous there on the door? <3 I took a ton of photos trying to get the perfect one for the cover of the pattern. This was actually my runner up.

I love the touch of added depth and flair the addition of the subtle lines give it. 

Isn't it just so pretty matching the color of the sky and the leaves at the same time? Had such a hard time getting it to stay in place, it was quite windy ^^

Anyway, I really love it and I hope you will too! I think it looks so great in it's location at home =)

Snowflake table topper

Since I needed something a bit less summery then my Summer Squares Table Topper for the table, I decided to whip up a quick one from some of my Flurry scraps. Ended up playing a lot with my decorative stitches when quilting it since I now can use them perfectly again after my beloved Horizon was given some TLC by the service guy =)

Simple table runner "a la Maggur"

At the quilting retreat one of my dear friends had been mass producing these table runners for her friends and in the end I just had to try my hand at one too. It was such a simple strip piecing process and a brilliant ending solution  made this runner a pure joy to complete! Thank you Maggan for showing me how to make this! <3

The colour choice I'm not 100% on, sometimes I think it's really pretty, other times it makes me sort of nauseated... I think that if I'd chosen a dark green edge instead of the pink, it would have looked much, much better and less vomit inducing ^^

This was also my first time of quilting with a decorative stitch, I choose little leafs in a variegated thread and I'm quite happy with the result, not over the moon but it kind of works. It's unwashed in the pictures, I'm quite sure a good wash and tumble will do it good. =)


In case anyone is wondering where I got the adorable shell and the pretty sea-urchin shells (are they called shells?), we've been snorkelling a lot the last few days just about a hundred meters from our apartment. Luckily for me it's a local beach - or beach might be a touch on the grandiose side for a name for this little place - anyhow so there's plenty of finds to make on the bottom around here as the tourists hasn't cleaned it out. We also just got a new camera, it was really cheap as a new model just hit the shelves but I think the pictures are quite decent. It's mainly for partying (it's basically indestructible) and swimming (waterproof up to 10 meters) and we snapped some pictures of our swim two days ago.

Skinny Sunkissed Table Runner

So I finished up my "Skinny Verna" version, from a tutorial you can find here on Moda Bakeshop, though mine is more of a "Skinny Sunkissed" =)

It was an excellent way to use up really tiny scraps of my jellyroll and I love the way it came out. The weather sadly didn't permit any nice pictures so these will have to do. I also discovered how much I dislike doing straight line quilting now that I have an alternative... It's just so, so time consuming.

 In it's place with our loved ones.

Tutorial - Sunkissed Summer Squares Table Topper

I've been playing with the scraps from my Sunkissed project and I've been having so much fun! The result amongst other things is this adorable little table topper which I thought I'd create a quick tutorial for as it's a great way to use up a few jelly roll scraps.

Sunkissed Summer Squares - Table Topper

Materials
18 jelly roll scraps (or 2,5" strips)
2 2,5"x white width of fabric strips for borders
2 2,5"x width of fabric strips for binding (or leftover jellyroll pieces)

Step 1 - Cutting
Sort your jelly roll scraps, you'll preferably use 18 different ones - the longer pieces will be the borders, the shorter ones will be centers. Cut nine 2,5" squares for center pieces. From your longer scraps cut one 2,5" squares and one  4" strip from each.

Split the border pieces down the middle so you get two 1,25" wide pieces from each.

Step 2 - Assembling your blocks
Attach the short border pieces to the sides of the square and then add the longer 4" borders.

Make 9 blocks.

Step 3 - Assemble your top
Choose a pleasing layout for your blocks and sew them together.

Step 4 - Add borders
Add 10,5" of the white borders to the sides and then add 14,5" inches to the other sides.

Step 5 - Add applique and quilt
Add your applique using your preferred method, I used raw edge applique and Steam a Seam fusible web which I think is a great product, really easy to use. The flower applique I used will be available for download in a few days should you wish to use it. =)

 

I attached the applique with the batting and backing in place hence quilting it at the same time.
Quilt as desired. I quilted it with a loop the loop pattern with some flowers mixed in.

Attach binding and you're done. One super summery, really quick to make 14½" x14½" table topper!

Finally! A Finish! Poppy Log Cabin Table Topper

Remember this post: I said I wasn't going to play around ?

Well it's finally finished! Since I didn't have any orange thread at the time it remained unbound, and for some reason I'd decided to sew the binding down by hand (maybe because it's a table topper and will be closely looked at?) so once I got the thread I didn't really do the binding anytime soon XD But as of yesterday it's finished!

It's quilted on my old machine (the one that constantly changed thread tension on it's own and skipped stitches) with a walking foot so I'm really quite happy with it. =) The more I look at it the more I love this little quilt and the fabric in  it, it's really bright and happy and I LOVE poppies so it's right up my alley really.

Kitty update: Apparently she doesn't have any stones or any atypic cells in the urine and it appears to be "just" a really nasty infection. So she's on antibiotics, painkillers and some kind of cramp solver to relax the urine bladder so hopefully this will take care of it.

Winding Wines Tablerunner

So since the weather isn't cooperating for outdoor pictures of the Companion Cube Quilt and I'm currently working on some secrets so I can't share in progress pictures - I figured I's show you an old table runner I did a few years back that I just love. It's a really fun project to do as the possibilities are endless with this technique, the downside is that it requires a LOT of thread ^^

I love the wine fabric, I have enough fabric to make something else with it and I think I have to use it soon as this poor table runner will be so sun bleached and washed up that they won't match otherwise =)

Log Cabin Poppy Wreath

So, last night I really stepped out of my normal comfort zone when it comes to fabric. I wanted a quick project so I started a traditional log cabin pattern for a table topper. The pattern comes from Mias Quiltbod.

The fabric is adorable, I love it but it's just not something I'd normally use. A special person came popping (no pun intended - honestly!) up in my head all the time I was sewing. A person that is pretty much like both the pattern and the fabric in combination. I don't think it's her style at all though, but she is lot's of fun and really bright and cheery like the fabric, while still traditional, like the log cabin... So if it turns out good, I think it might become a gift for this person despite it not being something I think she'd normally enjoy. Wow, this is a really weird thought process I realize but it's all how I felt last night when I couldn't sleep and stayed up and sewed instead.=)

So here's what's on my design wall right now, but I think I'm going to exchange the corner pieces for all black log cabins instead, to bring out the wreath. And I think I'm not going to make a border of the flowers but do something else instead... Sorry about the bad quality of the picture but it was pitch black outside when I took it.

I can't believe I'm posting this, but I'm going to start on a project for something really awesome quilt wise soon! Something I've always wanted to be a part of and now I am. I still can't believe it. Will share more with you as soon as I can =)

Pinwheel Table Runner
So on to other, a bit less exciting things. Since I got some left over charms from making my 12 Days Of Christmas Rag Quilt, I made myself a little table runner. I was trying out a new way to make pinwheels that I've been wanting to test, it's SO quick! Will share the technique with you later I promise. =)

However, I didn't have any suitable sashing fabric so I used a pillow case, bad idea! It stretched more then a little and it came out a wonky due to that... But I like it anyway =)

Emerald is back and how I hate Maltese customs!

Yesterday I got to pick up my dear little Emerald! He's working again... Most of the time ;)


I've finally finished my Christmas table runner, it turned out very nice I think, I really like it now. Had I made it today through I would have put all the kitties facing the same direction.

I asked my fiance to take pictures for me, went to powder my nose and when I get back this sight meet me, my pretty table runner used as a kitty blanket at and armrest at the same time *lol*

On another note my long awaited fabric from fatquartershop.com arrived! BTW, costumer service there is AMAZING! I was a terrible costumer, ordered to little and had to add to my order last minute, lived in a country where normal shipping methods didn't work and they just kept being so friendly and helpful, will order from there again for sure! The thing is through on the subject of the fabric, I've seen it, but I haven't got it...

How's this you ask? Well Malta is an annoying, backwards little country is the answer! :(
I get to the customs office with my notice they left me, my ID card and my wallet, should be enough right?

Nooo, that's not enough! After the customs officer opened the packet, he looks very confused, looks at me and ask:
"What is this for?"
I answer "Quilts"
The officer replies "So curtains?"
I reply figuring this man isn't the sharpest pencil in the box, "No quilts, bedding".
I get back an "Aha" which clearly states he still has no idea what I'm talking about...


He then asks where my "eBbay receipt" for "the stuff" is, and I reply "I didn't get an eBay Receipt as it's not bought from eBay". He looks confused and then says that I have to have an "eBay receipt or Paypal receipt" to be able to collect my package. So I reply I can't get either of that as I paid with a card directly on the site and the site is not eBay. He's now getting really aggravated with me and says I have to call "the eBay" and get them to send me  another receipt so they know the value of the "the stuff" (no matter that it says on the label  what the value is) or my package will be sent back...

So here I am now, trying desperately to fake an "eBay receipt" that the not too clever customs officer will accept and I can get my fabric. Just another day in Malta... At lest I have my Emerald back =)

Christmas runner progress

I've not had much time for anything today so I figured I show you a picture from when I was re-quilting the table runner, I'm hoping to finish the binding today so maybe we'll have another progress post later. Before it was just quilted with a few straight lines across, now I've quilted it to try to empathize the adorable kitties and the hearts, I think I managed ok =)

I'm also contemplating some hand applique and how best to do it, also one of my "left since the summer" projects. So I'm doing some youtube watching to learn some new techniques, any tips and tricks you might have is much appreciated.

Wiggly table runner

So since I'm currently just able to do hand stitching my progress hasn't exactly been of lightning speed lately so I thought I'd show you something that I almost finished this summer but that's been in my pile of "whenever I should feel like hand stitching pile" waiting for it's binding to be hand sew on the backside. It got a border just a few days ago and I thought I'd show it to you since I still haven't finished the binding of my Christmas runner that I talked about a few posts back... Embarrassing I know, but I really hate sewing by hand.

So here's my wiggly table runner, made at Mia's quilting retreat this summer. It was so much fun to make and really quick too. I quilted it in the ditch using invisible thread, that however is not something I want to do again soon, tricky!

In it's rightful place on our coffee table,  it needs an ironing I know

And here's the back; as I've learned that not everything has to be perfect I thought I'd share it with you. I didn't really have enough background fabric so I added two sections from the front and the binding is really stretched at places to cover up the selvage which would have been visible in places otherwise *lol*
